Russian "ESK Soyuz" JSC started the realization of the first contract in Turkmenistan, as part of which it will analyze the technical condition of the foundation of a boiler unit at Mary Power Plant.
"Under the agreement, the ESK Soyuz will hold a detailed inspection of the boiler unit's foundation [...] and assess the possibility of its further use given the workload of the new boiler installed within the planned reconstruction of the power unit's boiler department," the company said Aug. 16.
ESK Soyuz is also considering expanding its presence in Turkmenistan's energy market and intends to participate in tenders on construction and reconstruction of local power plant's power units.
Mary Power Plant is the largest power plant in Turkmenistan. It was commissioned in 1973. The power plant has an installed capacity of 1685 megawatts. It produces over 40 percent of the country's electricity.
Power industry is one of the leading sectors of Turkmen economy. At this stage works are underway to expand electricity exports to Afghanistan, Iran and Turkey. The possibility of transporting electricity to Tajikistan, Kazakhstan, Pakistan and countries in Caucasus is also being explored.
Turkmenistan plans to produce up to 27.4 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity by 2020, by means of bringing this volume to 35.5 billion kilowatt hours by 2030.
