Georgia reduces imports of oil products from Azerbaijan

Georgia imported 224,660 metric tons of oil and petroleum products worth $200.47 million from Azerbaijan in January-October 2014, the Georgian National Statistics Service's foreign trade report says.

Oil and oil products from Azerbaijan in January-October amounted to 25.9 percent of a total import volume of Georgia in this category of products, the report says.

The share of oil and oil products in Georgia's total import volume from Azerbaijan for the reporting period amounted to 39.4 percent.

Georgia has imported oil and oil products in the amount of $773.11 million since early 2014.

In annual terms, the volume of Georgian imports of oil and oil products from Azerbaijan in value terms declined by 4.4 percent (in quantitative terms, supplies decreased by 0,310 metric tons in oil equivalent or by 0.14 percent).

For comparison, Georgia imported 224,970 metric tons of oil and oil products in the amount of $209.73 million from Azerbaijan in January-October last year.

Georgia imported the products worth $509.36 million from Azerbaijan in January-October 2014. According to the report, the volume of imports from Azerbaijan to Georgia increased by 3.9 percent during a year. For comparison, Georgia imported Azerbaijani goods worth $490.27 million during the same period of 2013.

Oil products are produced at two Baku refineries with a total capacity of 16 million metric tons of oil per year. Both plants are owned by SOCAR, which annually processes approximately seven million metric tons of oil extracted onshore and offshore through own funds.

The largest volume of Georgian import of gasoline and diesel fuel in 2014 accounted for Romania, Azerbaijan, Bulgaria, Greece, Russia and Turkmenistan.
