Four European countries are negotiating with Iran to build wind and solar power plants in the country.
Yusef Armodeli, managing director of the Renewable Energy Organization of Iran said negotiations are underway with companies from Germany, Spain, Portugal and Italy, the Mehr news agency reported on Nov. 30.
The European investors are currently studying to find the best locations to build the power plants, he added.
A probable final agreement between Iran and the P5+1 (the US, Russia, China, the UK, France and Germany) on the Islamic Republic's nuclear program will pave a way for signing contracts in the near future, he said.
Earlier in October, Armodeli said Iran is planning to produce 5,000 megawatts of electricity in the next five years using renewable energy sources.
The organization has comprehensive plans with respect to utilization of clean methods of energy supply, he added.
Esmaeil Mahsouli, Iran's deputy energy minister, said negotiations are underway with large European companies to invest in the country's power sector.
However, Mahsouli didn't elaborate on the details of the German company's investment.
The power generation capacity in Iran has grown by seven percent annually during the past 10 years.
Iran is currently the biggest electricity producer in the Middle East.
Its total electricity generation currently stands at 70,000 megawatts.
Iran currently trades power with Azerbaijan, Turkey, Turkmenistan, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Syria, Armenia, and Iraq.
