Georgia's import of petroleum products in 2014 increased

Georgia imported 796,600 metric tons of petroleum products in 2014.

The volume of the petroleum products imported by Georgia in 2014 was by 45,700 metric tons more than in 2013, Georgian Oil Products Importers Union told Trend on Jan.6.

Georgia imported 335,400 metric tons of gasoline and 461,200 metric tons of diesel fuel in 2014.

"The construction of gas stations meeting European standards continued in Georgia in 2014 and considerable amount of investments were made in this sphere," said the organization.

Moreover, a number of companies carry out intensive work on construction of gas stations in the country, according to the Oil Products Importers Union.

The downward trend in the prices for petroleum products will continue in Georgia in 2015, according to the organization.

"This trend also affected the retail sale of petroleum products in Georgia," the union said. "In particular, the prices for gasoline dropped on average by 0.25 GEL ($1=1.89 GEL) per liter starting from August 2014."

Currently, the average price for the 'Super' gasoline at Georgia's gas stations is 2.17-2.04 GEL per liter; 'Premium' - 2.03-1.94 GEL per liter and 'Regular' - 1.83 GEL per liter.
