By Fatih Karimov - Trend: Conducting technological studies on the development of three joint oilfields has been transferred to three Iranian universities, Iran's Shana news agency reported on Feb. 8.

The Petroleum Engineering Institute of the University of Tehran will conduct studies on the development of the South Azadegan oilfield. The Amirkabir University will conduct studies on the development of the Darkhovin oilfield. And the Sahand University will conduct studies on the development of the Soroush oilfield.

The South Azadegan oilfield is shared with Iraq. Iran's production from this joint field is still standing at around 50,000 bpd, while Iraq is currently recovering 175,000 bpd of oil from its sector of this field and plans to raise its output to 400,000 bpd.

The Darkhovin oilfield is shared with Iraq. The oilfield is currently producing 160,000 barrels of oil per day. The in-place oil reserves of the oilfield have been estimated at over 5 billion barrels.

The Soroush oilfield in the western parts of the Gulf holds 7.5 billion barrels of oil-in-place reserves.
