Azerbaijan reduces electricity generation

Azerbaijan produced 2.07 billion kilowatt hours of electricity in January 2016 or by 10 percent less than in January 2015, the country's State Statistics Committee's report said.

Of the total volume of electricity production, 1.98 billion kilowatt hours accounted for commercial electricity or by 10 percent less than in January 2015.

This is while of the total volume of commercial electricity produced in 2015, around 1.9 billion kilowatt hours (91 percent) accounted for the thermal power plants, or 10.7 percent less than in January 2015.

The hydro power plants in the country generated 93.5 million kilowatt hours of commercial electricity in 2015, or 10.8 percent more than in January 2015.

The wind power generating facilities produced 0.5 million kilowatt hours of electricity in January 2016, while the solar energy facilities generated 0.4 million kilowatt hours of electricity.

The generation capacity of Azerbaijan's power supply system has increased for the last five years. Currently, its capacity is 7,129 megawatt. This allows to generate around 24 billion kilowatt hours of electricity and export 2.1 billion kilowatt hours of electricity annually.
