The first batch of export oil from Kazakh Kashagan field entered the pipeline system of the Caspian Pipeline Consortium on Oct. 14 for further supplies to the world market, Sputnik Kazakhstan reported with the reference to the press service of the Kazakh Energy Ministry.

This oil batch in the amount of 7,000 tons was produced within the testing period. Moreover 18,800 tons of Kashagan oil was delivered to the pipeline system of Kazakh KazTransOil company and 22.8 million cubic meters of marketable gas was supplied to the pipeline system of Kazakh Intergas Central Asia company.

Kashagan is a large oil and gas field in Kazakhstan, located in the north of the Caspian Sea. Its total oil reserves amount to 38 billion barrels. Some 10 billion out of them are recoverable reserves. Kashagan’s natural gas reserve exceeds one trillion cubic meters.

Production at the Kashagan field started in September 2013, but in October, it was suspended after a gas leak on one of the main pipelines. An analysis was conducted for several months, which revealed numerous micro-cracks in the pipeline. They emerged as a result of the impact of the associated gas of high sulfur content on the metal. Pipeline replacement took more than 2 years. In Oct. 2016 oil production at Kashagan was resumed.
