Turkmenistan steps up construction of gas chemical complex

Construction of a plant for production of polypropylene and polyethylene is underway at an accelerated pace in the west of Turkmenistan, in the Kyyanly village of the country’s Balkan region, the Neutral Turkmenistan newspaper reported Dec. 22.

The enterprise is designed for processing of 5 billion cubic meters of natural gas for the production of 386,000 tons of polyethylene and 81,000 tons of polypropylene per year.

The project is implemented by a consortium of Toyo Engineering Corporation (Japan), LG International Corporation and Hyundai Engineering Co., Ltd (South Korea).

Technologies of such leading companies as Toyo Engineering Corporation (Japan), INEOS (UK), Lummus Corporation (US) and W. R. Grace & Co. (US) are being used in this project.

The complex will consist of units of gas separation, ethane cracker, units for production of high density polyethylene, polypropylene interconnected by technological process. The facility employs more than 10,000 workers and engineers.

More than 950 units of construction equipment are used in the project. This project is scheduled to be commissioned by late 2018.
