Currently Iran produces 700 million cubic meters per day (mcm/d) of sweet gas, of which 530 mcm/d is consumed in housing sector, CEO of National Iranian Gas Company Hamid Reza Araqi said Feb. 6.

He said that Iran’s housing sector is consuming 75 percent of the total gas output, Shana reported.

Soaring gas usage in households left little gas to be delivered to industrial and power sector in winter.

Iran’s gas consumption in housing sector stood at 160 mcm/d in spring and summer, but the volume soared as always since late September.

Iran was delivering about 200 mcm/d of gas to power plants and more that 95 mcm/d to industrial sector in spring and summer, but the figure decreased to 70 mcm/d and about 80 mcm/d currently.

Iran’s gas grid consists of 10 high pressure pipelines, 70 compressor stations and a 300,000 km network.
