The Turkish petrochemical complex Petkim has completed the work on building the 42MW-generating facilities of the Petkim wind farm on the Aliaga peninsula in western Turkey, says a message posted on the website of Turkey’s Public Disclosure Platform (Kamuoyunu Aydinlatma Platformu – KAP).

Total capacity of the wind farm is planned to be 51 MWs.

The work on construction of the wind farm’s remaining facilities, with a capacity of 9 MWs, continues.

Petkim already produces electricity, by using 25 MWs of the new wind farm’s capacity, in connection with which the company obtained a relevant license from Turkey’s Energy Market Regulatory Authority (EPDK).

Reportedly, the company plans to send an application to the EPDK in order to obtain a license to fully put the new wind farm into operation.

Earlier, Petkim’s General Manager Anar Mammadov said that the wind farm’s construction will be completed in 2017.

Completing the construction will allow to meet 12 percent of the Petkim complex’s demand in electricity.

The cost of the project is 55 million euros. The commissioning of the Petkim wind farm will help to not only provide the peninsula with electricity, but also will become a serious contribution to the development of alternative energy in Turkey. The work on the wind farm’s construction is being conducted by France’s Alstom company. The wind farm will provide all strategic projects of Petkim with electricity.

As of Jan. 1, 2017, Petkim’s assets increased by 14.8 percent and amounted to 6.27 billion liras as compared to 2015 (5.46 billion liras).

Net profit of Petkim increased by 14.5 percent and totaled 731.7 billion liras in 2016 as compared to 2015.

Petkim produces plastic packages, fabrics, detergents, and is the sole Turkish manufacturer of such products, a quarter of which is exported.

Petkim shareholders are: SOCAR Turkey Petrokimya A.Ş. – 51 percent, SOCAR Turkey Energy – 1.32 percent and 47.68 percent – in free float.
