Baku, Azerbaijan, May 11

By Leman Zeynalova – Trend:

The schedule of the Interconnector Greece-Bulgaria (IGB) project is undergoing changes, a source in the ICGB AD joint venture company, engaged in the project’s realization, told Trend May 11.

“The project schedule is being updated due to the attempts for change in the management of ICGB in Bulgaria in the last three months, which do not concern the main terms for putting the pipeline into operation,” said the source.

However, the source pointed out that the delays in IGB project’s implementation will be compensated and the main commitments regarding the start of the construction and putting the pipeline into operation will be retained.

Earlier, Bulgaria’s Energy Minister Nikolay Pavlov warned that the country may lose the gas contract with Azerbaijan if the construction of IGB is not completed by 2020.

IGB is a gas pipeline, which will allow Bulgaria to receive Azerbaijani gas, in particular, the gas produced from Azerbaijan's Shah Deniz 2 gas and condensate field. IGB is expected to be connected to the Trans Adriatic Pipeline (TAP) via which gas from the Shah Deniz field will be delivered to the European markets.

The initial capacity of IGB will be 3 billion cubic meters of gas.
