Diversification of export routes and transit of Turkmen natural gas will be discussed at an international gas congress in Avaza on May 23-24, Turkmenistan’s Oil and Complex said in a message.

Investment conditions in Turkmenistan will be presented, and prospects of development of the global gas market and construction of interstate gas pipelines will be discussed during the congress.

Earlier, Ashgabat put forward international initiatives at the UN in the spheres of ensuring energy security and environmental protection.

The gas congress is expected to be attended by heads and representatives of leading oil and gas companies, international organizations and financial institutions.

Turkmenistan is one of main players on the energy market of the Caspian region and ranks fourth in the world for its gas reserves.

Currently, the country delivers gas to Iran and China. Meanwhile, construction of Turkmen section of the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India (TAPI) gas pipeline is being carried out. Moreover, the project of the Trans Caspian gas pipeline through Azerbaijan to Turkey and Europe is being discussed.
