By Maksim Tsurkov – Trend:

SOCAR Turkey Enerji A.S., a subsidiary of Azerbaijan’s state oil company SOCAR in Turkey, will start a tender procedure in mid-year for construction of a new big energy complex in order to provide the company’s enterprises with electricity on the Aliaga peninsula in western Turkey, Head of SOCAR Turkey Enerji Zaur Gahramanov told Trend.

According to Gahramanov, the Petkojen project, implementation of which was previously planned, will be implemented in a different format.

“This will be a new big complex for supplying electricity to the Star refinery and Petkim’s enterprises. Currently, the design and engineering work have been completed,” he noted. “In the middle of the year, we will launch a tender for the construction of this complex, which will operate using gas. Facilities of the complex are designed to meet the electricity need of the Star refinery and Petkim.”

Gahramanov added that SOCAR Turkey Enerji has a license to sell electricity in Turkey’s territory, but the bulk of it, which is produced at the complex, will be used to meet the needs of the Aliaga peninsula.

In 2016, SOCAR suspended the construction of a cogeneration unit in Turkey (Petkojen project) due to technical reasons. The company will also put into operation all generating facilities of its wind farm on the Aliaga peninsula until late summer of 2017. Total capacity of the wind farm is planned to be 51 MW.
