SOCAR reveals volumes of purchased Shah Deniz gas

Azerbaijani state oil company SOCAR bought 1.75 billion cubic meters of gas produced from the Shah Deniz field in the Caspian Sea in January-August 2017, Suleyman Gasimov, SOCAR vice-president for economic issues, said in an article published in a special issue of the Iki Sahil newspaper.

More than 4.96 million tons of oil was produced from the fields developed by SOCAR in the eight months of 2017, he said, adding that about 3.86 million tons were sent for processing, while 968,800 tons were exported.

“As of late 2016, more than 7.52 million tons of oil was produced from SOCAR’s fields, nearly 6 million tons of which were sent for processing, and 1.44 million tons were exported. Besides, almost 1.52 million tons of oil produced at the Azeri-Chirag-Gunashli (ACG) block of fields, which accounts for SOCAR, was exported in 2016,” Gasimov said.

He noted that in January-August 2017, SOCAR independently produced about 3.96 billion cubic meters of gas, imported more than 1.11 billion cubic meters and bought another 1.75 billion cubic meters from the Shah Deniz field under the terms of the existing contract.

“At the same time, under the terms of the agreement on ACG development, around 2.22 billion cubic meters of associated gas was received from the consortium. In total, more than 6.56 billion cubic meters of the produced, bought gas and the gas received from the ACG was sold in the domestic market, and 803 million cubic meters was exported.”

In 2016, SOCAR produced about 6.27 billion cubic meters of gas, imported 298.4 million cubic meters of gas and bought more than 3.46 billion cubic meters from Shah Deniz, according to Gasimov.

The volume of associated gas received from ACG exceeded 2.76 billion cubic meters.

“Overall, about 9.68 billion cubic meters of produced, bought gas and the gas from ACG was sold in the domestic market and more than 1.32 billion cubic meters was exported in 2016.”
