The volume of gas production increased by 17 percent per year in Kazakhstan, the company's monitoring agency EnergyProm reported.

The volume of gas production reached 123.4 billion tenge, which is 10.2 percent more than in the same period of the previous year, said the report.

Over the years of independence, the level of gas production in Kazakhstan has increased more than fivefold, which is more than 46 billion cubic meters to 2016.

The annual rate of gas production is expected to grow by 4 percent from 2016 to 2040.

The bulk of the "blue fuel" production is provided by large deposits - Karachaganak (49 percent), Tengiz (31 percent) and Kashagan (14 percent). It is also expected that large oil and gas fields will gradually move into the gas category. It will provide a higher level of gas production.

Currently, Kazakhstan ranks 22nd in the world and 3rd among the CIS countries after Russia and Turkmenistan on confirmed reserves of gas.

For about 30 percent of produced gas is being used for local needs, 30 percent - for export.

The recoverable gas reserves are approved at the level of 3.9 trillion cubic meters, including the associated gas reserves - 2.6 trillion cubic meters and natural gas - 1.3 trillion cubic meters.
