By Maksim Tsurkov – Trend:

It is planned to transfer primary oil refining unit, together with atmospheric and vacuum distillation units (ELOU-AVT) with the capacity of two million tons from the former Azneftyag refinery to the Heydar Aliyev Baku Oil Refinery, the refinery’s chief engineer Rasim Ibrahimov said.

He said that the process of the unit’s relocation, as well as the modernization of the refinery, will be completed in 2021.

“If the decision is made, due to the fact that the transfer of the ELOU-AVT unit takes a long time, the demolition of the Azneftyag refinery will also be postponed until 2021,” Ibrahimov noted. “Previously, as part of modernization and reconstruction work, it was planned to increase the capacity of the ELOU-AVT at the Heydar Aliyev Baku Oil Refinery, but later it was decided to increase its thermal efficiency without increasing the capacity, since in that case it would cease to meet the standards of the country’s Ministry of Emergency Situations for seismic resistance.”

He noted that, in general, 12 new units will be built at the refinery.

“Four more units, including the ELOU-AVT, catalytic cracking and catalytic reforming units, as well as a diesel hydrotreatment unit, will be modernized,” Ibrahimov said.

Currently, the Heydar Aliyev Baku Oil Refinery is being modernized, after which its production capacity will increase from 6 million to 7.5 million tons per year.
