In January-November 2017, SOCAR Trading (a trading house of Azerbaijan’s state oil company SOCAR) purchased 3.5 million tons of Kazakh oil transported via the Caspian Pipeline Consortium (CPC) pipeline fur the supply to the global market, reads the final protocol of the 14th meeting of the Azerbaijani-Kazakh intergovernmental commission signed Dec. 7.

In 2015, SOCAR Trading acquired 835,100 tons of Kazakh oil.

The sides also noted that transportation of hydrocarbon raw materials through Azerbaijan’s territory in the direction of Batumi and Kulevi oil terminals is one of the main issues of the Azerbaijani-Kazakh cooperation.

The protocol states that the Azerbaijani side considers it more expedient to take advantage of the opportunities of the Kulevi Black Sea oil terminal for the transshipment and storage of Kazakh oil and oil products.

The terminal currently plays an important role in the transportation of significant volumes of oil to global markets and has the capacity to transship 10 million tons of oil and oil products per year.
