By Maxim Tsurkov – Trend:

Since early 2017, Azerbaijan imported 6,000 tons of fuel oil from Kazakhstan, a source in Azerbaijan's state-owned company SOCAR told Trend.

The source said that the whole volume of fuel oil of Kazakhstan origin was delivered in February.

"The import was made to meet the fuel needs of the Mingachevir HPP, a part of Azerenerji OJSC. There were no other purchases of fuel oil from Kazakhstan. The country mainly purchased fuel oil from Turkmenistan and Russia," the source said.

The source added that until the end of this year, Russia and Turkmenistan will deliver about 100,000 tons of fuel oil.

"The deliveries began in late November. Last season Azerbaijan imported a little more than 110,000 tons, if the volume purchased by the end of this year is not enough to cover the needs, additional volumes will be acquired in early 2018," the source said.

Azerbaijan acquires fuel oil in order to meet the fuel needs of the country's power plants. The domestic production of fuel oil was greatly reduced in connection with the optimization of the process.

So, in January-October 2017, 258,700 tons of fuel oil were produced in Azerbaijan, which is 41.9 percent lower than the same period of 2016.

In April 2016, the Azerbaijani government exempted from customs duties the fuel oil, which will be imported for the needs of Azerenerji OJSC.
