Turkish ministry discloses details of Great Istanbul Tunnel construction

Turkey plans to build 14 metro stations within construction of one of the largest tunnels in Istanbul, the Great Istanbul Tunnel, Turkish Ministry of Transport, Maritime and Communications told Trend Dec. 19.

Turkey plans to build 14 metro stations within construction of one of the largest tunnels in Istanbul, the Great Istanbul Tunnel, Turkish Ministry of Transport, Maritime and Communications told Trend Dec. 19.

As the ministry noted, on November 30, 2016 a tender was announced for research, design and engineering works within the project.

"The project provides for construction of the world's first three-tier tunnel under the Bosphorus Strait in Istanbul. The plan is to lay a tunnel at a depth of 110 meters; its length will be 6.5 kilometers. One railway and two highways connecting the Asian and European parts of Istanbul will be laid through the tunnel," the ministry said.

Presently, Turkey has 40 automobile and three railway tunnels.
