Turkey increases Russian gas imports

Turkey imported 5.35 billion cubic meters of gas from Russia in January-February 2018 compared to 5.33 billion cubic meters of gas imported in January-February 2017, says a report posted on the website of Turkey’s Energy Market Regulatory Authority (EPDK).

Turkey imported 28.64 billion cubic meters of gas from Russia in 2017 as compared to 24.54 billion cubic meters in 2016.

The report says that Turkey imported 11.62 billion cubic meters of gas in January-February 2018, of which 8 billion cubic meters were imported via pipelines and 3.62 billion cubic meters accounted for import of liquefied natural gas (LNG).

Russia’s share in Turkey’s total import of gas was 46.03 percent in January-February 2018.

Russia supplies gas to Turkey via the Blue Stream and Trans-Balkan pipelines. Blue Stream is a major trans-Black Sea gas pipeline with a capacity of 16 billion cubic meters per year that carries natural gas from Russia into Turkey.
