Canadian company to build solar energy facilities in Uzbekistan

SkyPower Global Canadian energy company will invest $1.3 billion in construction of solar energy facilities with a total capacity of 1GW in Uzbekistan, the Uzbek president’s decree dating April 28 said.

According to the decree, the agreement on purchase of electricity was signed between state energy operator Uzbekenergo and SkyPower Global on April 19.

The projects are planned to be implemented in Tashkent, Samarkand, Navoi, Jizzakh, Surkhandarya and Kashkadarya provinces.

SkyPower Global will carry out design, financing and construction of facilities, and will own and operate them in future. For the period of the agreement, the company and its future subsidiaries in regions of the country are granted tax and customs privileges.

The decree specifies that if the Uzbekenergo is unable to pay for the energy supplied, payment will be carried out from the state budget.

SkyPower Global is one of the largest companies in the solar energy sphere. It has branch offices in 34 countries.
