Turkish company talks on preparations for TANAP’s opening

TANAP project envisages transportation of gas from Azerbaijan's Shah Deniz field to the western borders of Turkey. The gas will be delivered to Turkey in 2018 and after completion of the Trans Adriatic Pipeline's construction the gas will be delivered to Europe in early 2020.

Three compressor stations as part of construction of the Trans Anatolian Natural Gas Pipeline (TANAP) project are ready for the date of the pipeline’s opening scheduled for June 12, Deputy General Director for Internal Projects of the Turkish Tekfen Holding Mustafa Kopuz told Trend.

Tekfen is the contractor of TANAP’s Lot 3, which envisages construction of the pipeline from Sivas to Eskisehir in Turkey, as well as for construction of compressor and metering stations.

“This project has got two phases, Phase 0 and 1. This opening ceremony is for the Phase 0, which consists of Metering Station 1 in Posof, Metering Station 2 in Eskisehir and Compressor Station 5L in Eskisehir. These are completed and gas flow will be established to the Turkish grid,” said Kopuz.

He noted that the Compressor Station 1 in Damal, Compressor Station 5 in Eskisehir, Metering Stations 3&4 in Thrace will be ready to gas flow in May 2019.

“In summary, Phase 0 is the gas supply to Turkey, Phase 1 is to Europe,” Kopuz concluded.

The length of TANAP is 1,850 kilometers with an initial capacity of 16 billion cubic meters of gas. Around six billion cubic meters of this gas is meant to be delivered to Turkey, with the remaining volume to be supplied to Europe.
