By Maksim Tsurkov – Trend:

SOCAR Turkey Enerji company is studying the opportunities of the Turkey's of liquefied natural gas (LNG) market, head of SOCAR Turkey Enerji Zaur Gahramanov told reporters on May 29.

"Recently, the Turkish side has implemented several LNG projects. SOCAR is not participating in these projects. For us, the priority is Azerbaijan’s pipeline gas. Nevertheless, we keep the issue of LNG on the agenda," Gahramanov said.

SOCAR has implemented a very successful project in Malta both in terms of LNG sales and regasification, he added.

"However, firstly, LNG projects require large investments. At the same time, the sale of LNG to Turkey is profitable only in the winter season. Given all this, we do not yet add LNG to the list of projects, but we analyze and keep this segment in view," Gahramanov said.

It is expected that in 2018 the consolidated turnover of SOCAR Turkey Enerji will reach $15 billion, and the company will become the second largest industrial company in Turkey with 5,000 employees and $3 billion worth of export potential.

SOCAR Turkey Enerji aims to become the largest Turkish industrial company by 2023. The company also owns a controlling stake (51 percent) in the petrochemical complex Petkim on Aliagha Peninsula.
