Ashgabat, Turkmenistan, July 3

By Huseyn Hasanov - Trend:

The political consultations between the ministries of foreign affairs of Turkmenistan and Romania were held in Ashgabat, the Turkmen Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

The Romanian delegation was headed by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the country Theodore Meleshkanu.

The parties discussed issues of bilateral cooperation in all spheres, in particular, in the political, trade and economic areas of cooperation.

Speaking about the relations in the trade and economic spheres, the parties highlighted the spheres of energy and transport, noting the prospects of partnership between the sea ports of Turkmenbashi and Constanta, the message says.

Taking into account the relations between Turkmenistan and the European Union, and in the context of Romania's upcoming presidency of the Council of the European Union in the first half of 2019, hope was expressed to support active cooperation with Romania within the EU as well.

Turkmenistan is one of the promising partners for Europe in the field of energy security and the opportunity to diversify the sources of raw materials supply. One of the possible options for entering this market is the construction of a gas pipeline from Turkmenistan along the Caspian seabed to Azerbaijan, which is connected with Turkey and Europe through relevant communications.

In addition, the two countries are studying the best ways of the Black Sea-Caspian Sea trade and transport corridor using the advantages of the ports of Constanta and Turkmenbashi.

This refers to the formation of the Eurasian transport corridor. In particular, the State Service of Maritime and River Transportation of Turkmenistan has been studying in recent years the possibility of transportation of goods, including liquefied gas to Constanta. The supply route involves the use of special containers and runs through the Caspian Sea to Baku (Azerbaijan), and further to Batumi or Poti (Georgia, the Black Sea region) by rail and therefrom to Romania by sea.
