Uzbekneftegaz, Gazprom mull export of Uzbek gas to Russia

Deputy Prime Minister of Uzbekistan, Chairman of the Board of Uzbekneftegaz JSC Alisher Sultanov and Chairman of the Board of Gazprom PJSC Alexei Miller discussed purchase of Uzbek gas by Russia during a working meeting in St. Petersburg, the press service of the Russian company stated.
“The parties discussed the course of bilateral cooperation of companies. In particular, the sides touched upon joint development of the Shakhpakhty field. The counterparts also discussed purchase of Uzbek gas by Gazprom,” the Russian company noted.
Uzbekneftegaz is currently the main partner of Gazprom in production of natural gas in Uzbekistan. In 2017, the volume of supply of Uzbek gas to Russia amounted to 5.5 billion cubic meters.
Gazprom and Uzbekneftegaz signed an agreement on the main principles of geological exploration of the subterranean blocks of the Ustyurt region of the republic in 2006. In 2017, the companies signed an agreement on strategic cooperation.
Shakhpakhty is the largest gas condensate field in Uzbekistan, discovered in 1962, during the Soviet times.
