By Huseyn Hasanov - Trend:

Commissioning of the Rabatkashan-Kalaynaw (Turkmenistan-Afghanistan) electricity transmission lines, which will allow to increase deliveries of Turkmen electricity to Afghanistan, has been planned for this month, the Altyn Asyr TV channel reported July 24.

A part of the electricity produced in Turkmenistan is supplied to the northern regions of Afghanistan on preferential terms, and with the completion of the construction of additional power plants and infrastructure facilities, the volume of its exports to the neighboring state will increase even more, the report says.

It is expected that the Rabatkashan-Kalaynaw project will give impetus to the economic development of the Turkmen province of Badhyz and nearby regions of Afghanistan.

Turkmenistan's delegation at the ceremony of launching the transmission lines in Afghanistan will be led by Energy Minister Charymyrat Purchekov.

It was reported earlier that the capacities of the Rabatkashan substation in the Mary province and the Atamyrat substation in the Lebap province of Turkmenistan have been expanded in order to ensure sustainable electricity supply.

Turkmenistan is traditionally a supplier of electricity to Afghanistan: 700 million kilowatt hours of the Turkmen electricity is sent annually in two directions – through power lines Imamnazar-Andkhoy and Serkhetabat-Herat-Turgundi.

It was reported in February 2018 that the governments of Turkmenistan, Afghanistan and Pakistan also signed an agreement for construction of transmission lines along the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan route.
