Uzbekneftegaz JSC started gas extraction from the second well of the Kuyi Surgil gas condensate field, located in the Berdakh swell of the Ustyurt region of Uzbekistan, the press service of the company stated.

According to Gulmurod Mavlyanov, director of Uzneftegazgeologiya LLC (structural unit of Uzbekneft JSC), earlier gas was being extracted mainly in the upper and middle deposits of Jurassic age, whereas now industrial gas reserves are found in the lower Jurassic sediments.

“The success of the second well confirms the prospects of the new field. Having finished drilling the second exploratory well, we received an industrial inflow of natural gas and gas condensate. The well is deep, over 3,600 meters. According to experts, the productive contour of the field is expanding,” Mavlyanov said.

According to him, gas condensate research is currently underway in the well and work on testing possible productive horizons will be completed within a month.

For further exploration of the deposit, a third well is also drilled and a fourth well is planned to be drilled.

It was earlier reported that Uzbekistan is going to create the largest technological cluster in the Central Asia on the basis of a new gas chemical complex (GCC).

Uzbekneftegaz will build a GCC capable of processing 1.3-1.5 billion cubic meters of gas based on the technology of MTO (methanol in olefins) and producing 200,000-250,000 tons of polypropylene, 100,000 tons of ethylene-propylene rubber, 100,000 tons of polyethylene terephthalate and ethylene vinyl acetate, 100,000-150,000 tons of ethylene glycol and polyethylene.
