A wind power plant with a capacity of 42-megawatts is being constructed on a 375-hectare-site in Tupkaragan district of Kazakhstan’s Mangystau region, the regional administration said.

The memorandum of cooperation on the project implementation was signed in July 2018 by the administration of the Mangystau region, South Wind Power company and China’s Khorgos Jiuhe SilkBridge New Energy Co. Ltd.

Investors intend to install about 17 wind generators with a capacity of 2.5 kilowatts each. Seventy people will be involved in the construction.

The total amount of investments, including equipment for wind turbines, consumables, EPC-contract (engineering, supply, construction), costs for the first year of operation and maintenance during commissioning, will be $50.29 million.

"Construction of the wind power plant refers to the transition to green economy, the implementation of environmentally friendly innovative technologies,” the regional administration said. “This project will help meet the region's electricity needs. The project is planned to be completed in May 2019."
