By Ilkin Shafiyev – Trend:

The cost of the project of the first floating solar power plant in Azerbaijan is $100,000-$200,000, Deputy Chairman of the State Agency for Alternative and Renewable Energy Sources of Azerbaijan Jamil Malikov told Trend Sept. 3.

The Asian Development Bank (ADB) is supporting the project.

“A tender has already been announced for the construction of a floating solar power plant with capacity of 100 kilowatts,” he noted. “This is a test project that will make it possible to identify the efficiency of introduction of such power plants in Azerbaijan. The first floating solar power plant will be located on Lake Boyukshor. For now, preparation of tender procedures is underway as part of the project.”

It was earlier reported that ADB allocated $3 million in technical assistance for the development of solar energy in Azerbaijan, Kyrgyzstan and Afghanistan.

The potential of renewable energy sources in Azerbaijan is over 25,300 megavolt-amperes, according to experts. Most of the country’s renewable energy potential accounts for solar energy.

The State Agency for Alternative and Renewable Energy Sources of Azerbaijan plans to implement 23 projects worth about 13 million manats as part of the Strategic Roadmap for the Development of Public Utilities (Electric and Thermal Energy, Water and Gas) in 2018-2020.
