A senior official with Iran’s energy ministry said the country is working in close cooperation with European countries in the sectors of energy.

“The Islamic Republic of Iran has close cooperation with European countries, particularly the European energy commission, in the sectors of water and energy,” Farahad Yadandoost, an adviser to the Iranian energy minister, said in a meeting with Austrian Ambassador to Tehran Stefan Scholz, ILNA news agency reported on September 26.

Austria, Germany, Switzerland and the Netherlands are the major ones, he said.

He added that Tehran was ready to enhance its all-out ties with Europe in various fields, particularly economy.

The official said Iran is making great progress in the field of renewable energies and could achieve self-sufficiency soon.

The country currently has 400 MW of renewable capacity in place and is the most advanced in its development of renewable energy in the Middle East, mostly due to its past investments in hydropower schemes.

Iran, however, is pushing the envelope on its green fleet efforts to establish other capacities, ranging from wind power to solar farms and burning biomass and waste to heat homes.
