Baku, Azerbaijan, Sept. 29
By Ilkin Shafiyev - Trend:
Azalternativenerji LLC under the State Agency for Alternative and Renewable Energy Sources is negotiating with a number of foreign investors on financing the project of a wind power plant in the Caspian Sea, the Chairman of Board of Azalternativenerji LLC Agshin Bekirzade told Trend.
"The power plant will be placed in the sea. It will extend from the Baku settlement of Pirallahi to Chilov Island. It is planned that the capacity of the power plant will be 200 megawatts. The State Agency for Alternative and Renewable Energy Sources is negotiating with investment companies in this regard."
"The potential investors represent Arab countries, China and Canada," Bekirzade said.
Bekirzade added that at the same time, it is necessary to introduce the so-called green tariff in order to attract foreign investors to Azerbaijan. This is a special scheme designed to attract investments in renewable energy technologies. It assumes, in particular, an increase in the cost of the produced electricity.
"Electricity tariffs are very low, and it is very difficult to attract investors for this reason. This situation is connected with the social policy of the state, which prevents the growth of electricity prices. Nevertheless, the "green tariff" should be introduced, otherwise it will be very difficult to attract investors," Bekirzade said.
