The head of Iran Veterinary Organization said a consignment of 5,000 tons of red meat would arrive in Iran soon in a bid to regulate the domestic market.

A ship carrying 5,000 tons of frozen Brazilian red meat will berth at Iran’s southern coasts on Wednesday, Alireza Rafieepour said, IRNA reported on October 16.

Enemies are blocking refrigerated containers from entering Iran as new US sanctions against Iran loom, he added.

A total of 429,000 tons of red meat were produced in Iran’s officially registered slaughterhouses during the past fiscal year (March 2017-18), registering a 4 percent decline compared to the year before, the Statistical Center of Iran reported on its website.

Beef and veal had the lion’s share in the country’s red meat output during the year with 223,000 tons (52%), followed by lamb and mutton with 162,000 tons (37.6%), goat meat with 34,000 tons (7.8%) and meat from other livestock reached 11,000 tons (2.65%)
