Russia to take part in construction of HPPs in Uzbekistan

Russia will take part in the development of a feasibility study for the construction of the Mullalak and Upper-Pishkom hydropower plants on the Pskem (Pishkom) river in Uzbekistan, Trend reports referring to Uzbek media.

The statement was made after the negotiations in Moscow betweem Chairman, Director General of RusHydro Nikolay Shulginov and Deputy Prime Minister of Uzbekistan, Minister of Finance Jamshid Kuchkarov.

The main topic of the talks was the development of cooperation between RusHydro and Uzbekistan in hydropower. During the meeting, the parties discussed the current state of cooperation, as well as prospects for expanding joint activities in the design, construction of new and reconstruction of existing hydroelectric power plants in Uzbekistan.

During the First Interregional Cooperation Forum of between Russia and Uzbekistan with the participation of the heads of state, an agreement of mutual understanding and cooperation in the field of hydropower was signed between RusHydro and Uzbekhydroenergo.

The key point of the agreement is the creation of a working group, which will begin the development of a feasibility study in the 1Q2019 for the construction of the 240-megawatt Mullalak HPP and the 200-megawatt Upper-Pishkom HPPs on the Pskem river in Uzbekistan, including the design and research work.

Following the talks, the parties confirmed their readiness for mutually beneficial cooperation and agreed to expand the list of projects for which subsequent negotiations and pre-project elaboration will be conducted.
