Envoy: India continues purchasing Iranian oil

India has not stopped purchasing Iranian oil and will continue doing so, India's ambassador to Iran Sohrab Kumar said, Trend reports via Iranian media.

The ambassador noted that a special mechanism, based on Indian rupi, for purchasing Iranian oil will be applied.

Over the last months, on average, India bought 1.25 million tons of oil from Iran, he said.

The special mechanism will be fully formed within 2-3 weeks and will operate through UCO bank, Kumar said.

Sohrab Kumar completes his mission in Iran as an Indian ambassador on Jan. 7, 2019, and will continue his diplomatic career as India's ambassador to Myanmar.
