Uzbekistan has chosen the most modern, safe, environmentally friendly technology for the construction of the first nuclear power plant in the country, Trend reports referring to Uzbek media.

The statement was made by Director General of Uzatom Agency Jurabek Mirzamakhmudov.

He added that the technology to be used has the most advanced systems of active and passive safety.

"Uzatom, together with the Rosatom state corporation, have developed and approved a program for the exploration work, according to which a design work will be carried out at several potential sites until the end of 2019," Mirzamakhmudov said.

He noted that supply of fuel will be carried out in line with the contract that is to be discussed in 2019.

"Within any procurement, we will strive to ensure that the best possible conditions are accepted, taking into account the national interests of Uzbekistan," Mirzamakhmudov added.

Back on Sept. 7, 2018, the governments of Uzbekistan and Russia signed an agreement in Moscow on cooperation in construction of a nuclear power plant in Uzbekistan.
