Iran is expected to bring the volume of electricity generation at hydropower plants to 10,500 gigawatt by the end of the current Iranian calendar year (which started on March 21, 2018), said Director of the Iranian Hydropower Plants Management Center Farbod Estiri.

He noted that the decision was made taking into account the autumn rains in the country, Trend reports citing Mehr.

Estiri went on to add that the volume of electricity generation at the country’s hydropower plants stood at 8,751 gigawatt per hour since the beginning of the current Iranian year, or 37 percent less as compared to the same period last year.

“It is expected that the volume of electricity generation will increase taken into account the rains of the last three months,” he said.

“We are ready to cover the country’s electricity demand during the peak periods in summer of the next year (which will start on March 21, 2019. Hydropower plants will make a significant contribution to the electricity generation during the peak periods,” added Estiri.
