By Leman Zeynalova – Trend:

The new equipment at Zagli-Zeyve oil field of Siyazanneft oil and gas production department of Azerbaijan’s state oil company SOCAR is planned to be installed in March 2019, SOCAR told Trend.

The company said it is purchasing equipment, including air-cooled systems, compressors and separators in order to collect 6.9 million cubic meters of associated gas per year (with methane content of 4.6 million cubic meters per year) at Zagli-Zeyve field.

“Depending on the weather conditions, we plan to start the installation of this equipment in March,” said SOCAR.

The activities are carried out under the Gas Capturing component of the Nationally Appropriate Mitigation Actions (NAMA) project of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and SOCAR.

Associated Gas Capture component has started in February 2017 with the recruitment of International Consultant and Local Experts.

In March 2016, UNDP and SOCAR launched the project on Nationally Appropriate Mitigation Actions (NAMAs) for low-carbon end-use sectors of the country.

The specific objective of the project is to support SOCAR in the implementation of its Climate Change Strategy. Promoting and up-scaling greenhouse gas (GHG) mitigation measures will be introduced and implemented during project period. Thus, pilot investments will be directed into energy efficiency and low carbon technologies in the country. The NAMA project is jointly financed by the Global Environment Facility (GEF), UNDP and SOCAR and is implemented by SOCAR and UNDP Azerbaijan.

The onshore oil field Zagli-Zeyve is located in Azerbaijan’s Siyazan district.

Implementation of the associated gas collection program at the field started in February 2017 with participation of international consultants and local experts.

Currently, Siyazanneft operates approximately 550 wells in an area of approximately 2,000 hectares.
