Azerbaijan sees significant increase in alternative energy production

Power stations in Azerbaijan generated 23.24 billion kilowatts per hour of electricity in 2018, which is 2.6 percent more than previous year’s figures, Trend reports via the report of the State Statistics Committee.

Around 22.37 and 20.5 billion kilowatts per hour of the total electricity produced during this period were accounted for commercial use and consumption by thermal power plants (TPPs) respectively, which is 3.1 percent more than the figures for 2017.

Hydroelectric power plants (HPP) in Azerbaijan produced 1.7 billion kilowatts per hour of electricity for the specified period, which is 1.2 percent more than the figures for 2017.

Around 57.5 million kilowatts per hour of electricity (a fivefold increase) were produced by wind power generation, with solar power generation producing 38.3 million kilowatts per hour of electricity (4.3 percent decrease) during the reporting period.
