South Pars Gas Company has the biggest share of natural gas production in Iran, said the Managing Director of South Pars Gas Company Hadi Hashemi, Trend reports citing ILNA.

"The South Pars Gas Company has produced 67 percent of country's sweet gas in 2017, while 96 percent of country's LPG and 100 percent of Iran's ethane is produced by the company," he noted.

"Currently more than 92 percent of country's gas condensate needs is produced by the South Pars Gas Company, alongside 55 percent of sulfur production," he added.

"In general, the operation of each phase in the South Pars Gas Company has helped the country's GDP," he said.

Hashemi noted the importance of the domestic production.

"By supporting domestic producers during last year (March 21, 2017) and manufacturing various type of parts and equipment in the power sector, around $5.9 million has been saved," he said.

The South Pars is a natural-gas condensate field located in the Persian Gulf. It is by far the world's largest natural gas field, with ownership of the field shared between Iran and Qatar.

According to the International Energy Agency (IEA), the field holds an estimated 51 trillion cubic meters of in-situ natural gas and some 50 billion barrels of natural gas condensates.
