Kazakhstan increases electricity generation

In 2018, Kazakhstan generated 107.1 billion kWh of electricity, which is an increase of 3.8 percent compared to 2017, Trend reports referring To EnergyProm.kz.

In value terms, electricity generation reached 1.2 trillion tenge, 8.6 percent up year-on-year.

The system operator of the unified electric power system of Kazakhstan is KEGOC JSC. In 2018, the company completed the construction of an overhead power line of 500 kV for the North-East-South transit project, which is the largest infrastructure project in the industry launched in 2014.

Over the four years, high-voltage lines with a length of more than 1,700 kilometers were built, as well as three new substations of 500 kV – Semey, Aktogay and Taldykorgan.

According to data for the first 10 months of 2018, Kazakhstan’s energy producers met 98.5 percent of the total electricity demand in the country. At the same time, there was a significant annual growth in exports, which almost doubled: 10.1 percent of all electricity resources used compared to 5.5 percent in the same period of 2017.
