Eni achieves zero flaring configuration in Turkmenistan

Italian Eni oil and gas company has achieved zero flaring configuration in Turkmenistan’s Burun field, Trend reports with reference to the company’s data.

“Emissions from flaring in the exploration and production segment were down by 8.3 percent due to the achievement of the zero flaring configuration in Turkmenistan (Burun field) and the reduction of emergency flaring,” reads the 2018 full year report of the company.

This is while emissions from combustion and process were up by 2.6 percent from 2017, mainly in the exploration and production and repair and maintenance and Chemical businesses due to production growth, partly offset by lower power production in the gas and power segment, said Eni.

The report shows that emissions from methane fugitive were down by 5.3 percent benefitting from regular leak detection and repair programs in the exploration and production and gas and power segments.

Oil spill due to operations is down by 18.2 percent due to the technical measures adopted by Eni.

Water reinjection in the E&P segment confirmed the positive trend with a percentage of 60 percent, according to the report.

Eni is an Italian company with a worldwide presence. It is one of the global oil and gas super-players – operating in 71 countries worldwide and employing around 33,000 people.

Eni started its activities in Turkmenistan with the purchase of the British company Burren Energy plc in 2008. Activities are focused on the onshore Nebit Dag Area in the Western part of the country, over a developed acreage of 200 square kilometers (180 square kilometers net to Eni), in four areas.

Production derives mainly from the Burun oil field. Oil production is shipped to the Turkmenbashi refinery plant.

Eni receives, by means of a swap arrangement with the Turkmen Authorities, an equivalent amount of oil at the Okarem terminal, close to the South coast of the Caspian Sea. Eni’s entitlement is sold FOB.

Associated natural gas is used for gas lift system. The remaining amount is delivered to the national oil company Turkmenneft, via national grid.
