By Huseyn Hasanov – Trend:

Russia’s Gazprom has expressed interest in implementing joint projects on gas processing and the development of gas chemistry in Turkmenistan, Trend reports referring to the Turkmen Dovlet Habarlary state agency.

The parties are discussing various aspects of the implementation of the current intergovernmental agreement between Russia and Turkmenistan on cooperation in the gas sector until 2028, including resuming purchases of Turkmen gas.

Oil and gas partnership, strategic in its nature for both states, was considered among the relevant areas of cooperation during a meeting of the Turkmen head of state Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov with Russian Deputy Prime Minister Konstantin Chuychenko and Chairman of the Board of Gazprom Alexey Miller in Ashgabat last October.

On January 1, 2016, Gazprom Export notified the Turkmengas State Concern of the unilateral early termination of the 25-year gas purchase and sale contract signed in 2003.

In September 2016, it was reported that Gazprom came to an agreement with Turkmengas on a two-year pause in the purchase of Turkmen gas.
