Iran’s power industry is a foundation for developing domestic production, said Iran's Energy Minister Reza Ardekanian.

"Hopefully, with the efforts to improve the country’s power industry and sustainable services, this sphere be a foundation for domestic production in the country," Trend reports citing Fars News Agency.

The official said that Iran will commission new 4,400 megawatt power plants in the new Iranian year (started March 21, 2019).

"New 1,200 megawatt power plants were commissioned in the last Iranian year (started March 21, 2018) and there will be more improvement in new year," the minister added.

Talking about possible power shortage in the summer he said that if the consumption is leveled and is based on right model, naturally there will not be any shortage this year or any other time.

“We can even export electricity to neighboring countries and have a sustainable industry. But if there is overconsumption, we will be left behind the competition and face water shortage,” noted Ardekanian.

Referring to the recent flood in Golestan Province he said the flood has caused power cut in 400 villages in Golestan Province and 200 villages in Mazandaran province.

“Fortunately, the power supply has been resumed in 360 villages in Golestan and 193 villages in Mazandaran provinces,” he added.
