CEO of Iran Fuel Conservation Company Mohsen Delaviz asked Iran automotive industry to take action on changes the quality of domestic produced cars and reduce their gasoline consumption, Trend reports via Mehr.

Pointing to the high consumption of gasoline in the country during the Novruz holidays, Delaviz said that the economic conditions of the country require the special focus on energy efficiency optimization.

"Until the fuel price reform is legalized, each of us, has a duty to take full responsibility for the proper consumption of energy in household, and especially automotive industry sectors,” Delaviz said.

He criticized car manufacturers for high-fuel consumption in domestic cars, saying that the car-making industry needs to take steps to change the quality of cars and reduce the gasoline consumption of domestic production in line with the international standards.

The price of gasoline in Iran is $0.23. Upon smuggling it to countries like Turkey, Turkmenistan, Azerbaijan, Pakistan, Iraq, Afghanistan, the price rises up to some $1.23. Thus making fuel smuggling from Iran profitable.

On December 19, 2018 a government spokesman said that every day 11.5 million liters of gasoline is smuggled out of Iran.

Many experts claim that the gasoline price in Iran should rise to prevent the gasoline smuggling out of the country.
