By Leman Zeynalova – Trend:

EU companies need guarantees from Turkmenistan to be engaged in the Trans-Caspian Pipeline, European Commission spokesperson told Trend.

“We are in technical discussions with Turkmenistan to explore how and under which conditions Turkmen gas could possibly be shipped to the EU and also liaise closely with Azerbaijan on this. Any possible Trans-Caspian Pipeline would need to be built and financed by private sector companies, however. We suggested recently to Turkmenistan conducting a study on the feasibility of possible Turkmen gas deliveries. For EU companies to seriously engage, they would expect Turkmenistan providing necessary guarantees,” said the spokesperson.

Trans-Caspian Pipeline envisages transportation of Turkmen gas to Europe through Azerbaijan.

Turkmenistan is studying the possibility of bringing its energy products to the European market. To this end, a 300-kilometer gas pipeline will have to be laid along the Caspian seabed to the shores of Azerbaijan.

Turkmenistan has declared its readiness to supply Europe with an annual volume of up to 40 billion cubic meters of gas.
