Regardless of whether the US will extend the exemption period for countries purchasing oil from Iran's or not, Iran's oil exports will not drop in any case, an official from the Iranian Oil Ministry told Tasnim News Agency while commenting on the US not extending the exemption period set for some countries purchasing Iranian oil from US sanctions imposed on Iran, Trend reports.

According to the official, Iran's oil exports can experience a drop only through the decision of Iranian officials on halting oil exports, and no such issue is being currently raised.

He said that, should the exemption period not be extended, Iran will not take any rushed steps.

"Iran has examined and analyzed all possible scenarios and conditions with regards to oil exports. Under every circumstance, it is planned to take steps necessary for each program prepared beforehand," he said.

The Iranian official added that Iran will not be delaying its oil exports until the US comes (or does not come) to a decision.

He also said that the world's oil market needs Iranian oil, and there are various ways in which Iran can sell its oil.

The US announced its withdrawal from the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) between Iran and the P5+1 group (US, Russia, China, UK, France and Germany) in May 2018, and imposed sanctions on Iran in November of the same year, making exceptions for 8 countries to be able to continue purchasing oil from Iran for a period of 6 months. The 6-month exemption period ends in early May of this year.
