Oil export via Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan down

In January-April 2019, the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan (BTC) pipeline exproted 10.5 million tons of oil, which is 3.5 percent less than the same period last year, Trend reports referring to a report by the State Statistical Committee of Azerbaijan.

The oil exported via the BTC pipeline accounted for 81 percent of all oil transported through the country's main oil pipelines during the aforementioned period.

According to the State Statistical Committee, a total of 13.9 million tons of oil were transported via the country's oil pipelines, compared to 13.3 million tons transported during the same period last year.

Moreover, almost 1.5 million tons of transit oil (from Turkmenistan) was pumped through BTC, which is less than the figure for the same period in 2018 (2 million tons).

The total length of the BTC pipeline is 1,768 kilometers, 443 kilometers of which passes through Azerbaijan, 249 through Georgia and 1,076 through Turkey. Construction of the pipeline was commenced in April 2003, and the pipeline was filled with oil on May 18, 2005.
