Foundation laid for new petrochemical plant in Iran

The foundation of a petrochemical plant has been laid in Sonqor County of Iran’s Kermanshah Province, Trend reports referring to Shana News Agency.

The purpose for the construction of the plant is to provide Ilam Petrochemical Plant and other petrochemical plants in western Iran with fuel, as well as to export products to Azerbaijan, Georgia, Turkey, Iraq and Syria.

The Sonqor Polyethylene and Polypropylene Compounding Plant is expected to produce 48,000 tons of products annually.

The plant is being built with an investment of about $40 million in a 5-hectare area. The plant will be owned by Iran's Persian Gulf Petrochemical Industries Company.

The plant needs to be supplied with raw materials, particularly 17,000 tons of polyethylene, 28,000 tons of polypropylene, 3,000 tons of masterbatch and 2,500 tons of fuel annually.

The plant will mainly produce ethylene and propylene compounds and masterbatch.

Polyethylene and polypropylene compounds can be used in construction, electrical, automotive, packaging, agriculture, oil, gas, petrochemical industries.
