There are plans to start gas production from the second platform of the Umid field in Azerbaijan in the fourth quarter of 2022, said Ali Gurbanov, general director of the operating company “Umid-Babek”, Trend reports.

He made the remarks at the 26th International Caspian Oil & Gas Conference in Baku on May 31.

So far, only one platform is in operation at the field, he said. He noted that four wells will be drilled from the platform.

Gurbanov added that exploration work at the neighboring “Babak” structure is scheduled for next year, and the first well is expected to be tested in 2021. “If the results of the well are positive, it will be included in the development scheme,” he said.

The Umid field is located 75 kilometers from Baku, 40 kilometers away from the coast. About 2.7 million cubic meters of gas and 430 tons of condensate are produced daily at the field.

Umid is included in the Umid-Babek block of deposits, which is developed by SOCAR and its minority partner Nobel Upstream. SOCAR has a long-term development program for the Umid-Babek block, thanks to which it will be able to receive up to five billion cubic meters of gas annually from the Umid field only.
