Only the first stage of the large-scale project on gas supply to Kazakhstan’s capital, northern and central regions will be finished by the end of 2019, Head of the Gas and Petrochemical Department of the Ministry of Energy of Kazakhstan Ziyash Kiyakbayev said, Trend reports with reference to Kazakh news agency BNews|Online.

Previously, it was reported that the construction of the Saryarka pipeline which is to supply the capital, northern and central region of the country with gas will be finished in October, 2019.

However, according to Kiyakbayev, the part of the pipeline on the area from Karaozek compressor station, which is not far from Kyzylorda city, to Nur-Sultan city is the first stage of the construction.

“When we say that the construction will be finished in October, we mean the first stage, which starts in Kyzylorda, ends in Nur-Sultan and includes surrounding infrastructure objects,” Kiyakbayev explained.

He further noted that the second stage of the project covers the pipeline construction to Kokshetau city, whereas the third stage covers the construction of the pipeline from Kokshetau to Petropavl city. Thus, the entire northern part of the country will be supplied with gas within the project.

The pipeline starts from Beyneu-Bozoy-Shymkent pipeline. The main construction work is to be finished by the end of 2019 and the commissioning is planned for 2020. The 1,061 kilometers long pipeline will provide 171 settlements with gas. Currently, 780 kilometers of the pipeline have been already welded, and the project is 74 percent ready.

Kazakhstan’s Sovereign Wealth Fund Samruk-Kazyna JSC is participating in the funding of the project, KazStroyService JSC is the contractor of the project and Astana Gas is the operator.
